Description: | Granted to a graduating DVM student at the Atlantic Veterinary College who has demonstrated the greatest interest or knowledge in equine behaviour or horse/human interactions. |
Background: | Edward and Phyllis McDuffee were the parents of Dr. Laurie McDuffee, a large animal surgeon and Associate Dean of Graduate studies and Research at the AVC. Dr. McDuffee practiced, taught and conducted research focused around large animal surgery with AVC students for most of her career at the AVC and then moved into an administrative position. Edward and Phyllis paid for their daughterÕs DVM degree at Colorado State University. This was a great advantage to have as a DVM student. Dr. McDuffee sees current DVM students having anxiety over graduating with huge debt and hopes that this scholarship will decrease stress a small amount for a graduating veterinary student. Dr. McDuffee has a passion for promoting positive horse human interactions and promotes the importance of understanding the behaviour and intelligence of equine patients to AVC students. |
