Background: | Tracy (MacEachern) Ellsworth came to UPEI in 1983 from Chatham, N.B., and starred on the Panthers field hockey and basketball teams. She was team MVP in both sports in her fourth season and was the Atlantic Universities Athletic Association (AUAA) basketball tournament MVP as the Panthers won the conference title. That same season, she won the first back-to-back female athlete of the year awards at UPEI. TracyÕs all-conference performances in two sports as well as her MVP and outstanding athlete honours made her the most decorated UPEI female athlete. In recognition of her significant contributions to athletics at UPEI, Tracy was inducted into the UPEI Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. Tracy was a proud alumna, earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education degree from UPEI. She was also the UPEI Women's Basketball head coach for many years, coaching the team to a conference title in 1998. Tracy also spent many years coaching minor and provincial basketball in PEI. She had an incredible impact on the young people in the community through her coaching and her career as an educator. Tracy spread her love for teaching across various schools on the Island. She deeply cherished her most recent years as an Administrator at West Kent Elementary School. On June 21, 2024, Tracy passed away at 58. She was a loving wife to Paul and an adoring mother to Alex, Jenna Mae and Jordan. This scholarship is being established to honour Tracy Lynn Ellsworth's life and to remember her exceptional contributions as an educator, coach and community leader. |
