Description: | Granted to a student enrolled in full-time or part-time study in the UPEI McDougall Faculty of Business who identifies as a Black or Indigenous person and is in the greatest financial need. |
Background: | In 2021, the Atlantic Promise Scholars Initiative, spearheaded by Dalhousie University, was created, and a partnership was forged with 10 Atlantic Canadian universities that all passionately believe in their mission to do more to support equity, diversity, and inclusion. One aspiration of the Atlantic Promise Scholars Initiative is to make the region's business faculties and business communities more inclusive, with the goal of recruiting, retaining, and graduating more Black and Indigenous students by offering financial aid. This unique initiative is designed to increase classroom and boardroom opportunities for Black and Indigenous students through financial supports, meaningful work experiences, and professional/peer mentoring opportunities. The objective of the Atlantic Promise Scholars initiative aligns with Credit Unions' objective to improve the financial inclusion and resilience of Atlantic Canadians through education and entrepreneurship. Credit Unions' vision is to create a more inclusive financial services sector and a more equitable and diverse business community. Atlantic Central and League Savings and Mortgage Company (the "Donor") are dedicated to helping credit unions in the region grow. They invest in programs and services across Atlantic Canada and are proud to support the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) by establishing an award to support the Promise Scholars initiative at UPEI. |
