Background: | Leo Cheverie came to UPEI in 1980 after graduating from Souris High School in 1984. He joined the library staff in 1985 as a library technician and loved research and teaching students and others how to find things. He was heavily involved in campus activities during and after his time as a student and felt privileged to be part of a university community. He was known for his genuine interest in helping students, staff, and faculty. Leo was one of the early supporters and leaders of the World University Service of Canada initiative at UPEI. He also served as president of CUPE 1870 and as a member of the executive for many years. During that time, he helped to develop a campus-wide wellness committee, which led to an employee assistance program that supports all UPEI employees and their families. He was politically active, community-minded, a life-long learner, a strategic thinker and organizer, and an enthusiastic supporter of the arts and international communities around the world. |
