Description: | Granted to a full-time undergraduate student who has a demonstrated involvement in ensuring equitable and inclusive access to food and/or physical activity. Preference will be given to a student in the Foods and Nutrition or Kinesiology programs. Applicants must demonstrate in their personal statement how they fit the criteria for this award. |
Background: | This award was established by Dr. Katherine Gottschall-Pass, professor in the Applied Human Sciences department at the University of Prince Edward Island. Dr. Gottschall-Pass obtained her BSc (Nutrition & Consumer Studies] from St. Francis Xavier University, a Dietetic Internship from Victoria Hospital in London, ON and a PhD in Human Nutrition from the University of Saskatchewan. She is a Registered Dietitian who worked in research and development for the food industry and taught at St. Francis Xavier University prior to joining the Department of Applied Human Sciences at UPEI in 1996. In March 2019, Dr. Gottschall-Pass was appointed Interim Vice-President, Academic and Research, a position she held for four years. She has a special interest in supporting students in various areas of need at UPEI. Dr. Gottschall-Pass was instrumental in leading the development of the UPEI CRC EDI Action Plan and the UPEI EDI Strategy. This award will acknowledge AHS students who have an interest in supporting equity and inclusive access to food and/or physical activity. |
