Description: Granted to full-time Faculty of Business students who have a financial need and who strive to achieve their personal excellence in academics and any athletic endeavors, including those inside and outside of the university purview.
Background: Brothers Cecil and Mark Ladner grew up in the "East End" of Charlottetown. Both were strong in academics and were extremely active in athletics. They pursued accounting as a profession and both received their training with the firm known today as Grant Thornton. Cecil had a long career in the health field working at the Prince Edward Island Hospital and then becoming the first Director of Finance at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Mark had a distinguished career at Grant Thornton being a Partner in the firm and being recognized as a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA). They were both role models and mentors to many and had a huge impact on many careers. Cecil's son Kevin followed in their footsteps joining Grant Thornton, and he had the pleasure of working with Mark for a period of time. Kevin became CEO and Executive Partner of Grant Thornton on April 1, 2016. The University of Prince Edward Island's Business Program has been integral to the Ladner family as six members of the family have Business degrees from UPEI. Kevin and Kim Ladner and their family and extended family wish to honour Cecil and Mark for all they contributed to their families and many others. It is in this spirit that Kevin and Kim Ladner have established this award - to honour both of these men and all that they meant to Kevin and Kim and contributed to their families and so many others.
