Background: | Adam and Sonya Balderston are generous community benefactors to an array of causes and they care deeply about making a positive impact in our community. They see tremendous value in supporting education and have been giving to UPEI since 2003. Sonya grew up in a Montague fishing family, graduated from UPEI in 1997 with a BScN, received her RN shortly thereafter, and has spent her career working as a nurse at the QEH. Adam grew up in a Stratford farming family, graduated from UPEI in 1997 with a BBA in accounting, received his CA in 2002, and has spent the majority of his career working as an investment advisor at BMO Nesbitt Burns. They're also proud parents of daughters Katie and Emma. In December 2020, Adam was a founding member and donor alongside Scott Ferris and Stan MacPherson in the creation of The Albert "Ab" M. Ferris Memorial Scholarships at UPEI that were created to honour his accounting professor and long-time friend. In December 2021, the Balderstons were inspired to make a multi-year commitment to UPEI. Their gift is pledged over five consecutive years with instalments of $3,000 per year and their $15,000 commitment will provide educational opportunity for future students with the creation of 2 new $l,000/year student awards and will ensure UPEI can continue to expand its important work with a $l,000/year contribution to the annual fund. |
