Background: | Fulton Thompson Cousins was born January 3, 1938 and passed away on April 27, 2017. As a boy, he worked in a saw mill alongside his father and then turned his attention to the family's feed mill. Leaving school after Grade 8, he helped with the family egg and hog farm taking on full responsibilities with wife Mary. In the early 70's, he and Mary built a campground named Woodland Heights in the Spring Valley/Irishtown area. When planning the campground, Fulton decided that he could do the land work required, buying a bulldozer, and from there saw an opportunity to build a construction business which he named Woodland Heights Ltd. Fulton was known for his ingenuity and gave many hours of his time to the local Lions Club. He was a member of the Atlantic Land Improvement Contractors Association (ALICA) since its formation and served on the board for many years even after some health issues came along in 2007. He continued to attend meetings until his death. The Heavy Equipment Show began as an idea of one of the members of the Board of Directors of ALICA. The Association has been the proud owners and sponsors of this very successful industry event since its inception in 1986. The success of the show supported both the agricultural, forestry and construction sectors through a variety of initiatives that best meet the needs and objectives of the Association. These include contributions to various associations, organizations, and education institutions. ALICA is honored to establish this scholarship in memory of Fulton Cousins. |
