Background: | Marylou Hughes has made her mark in many ways on the University of Prince Edward Island. An active alumna, volunteer, and donor, Marylou's presence is strongly felt across campus. As the first mature student to graduate from UPEI with a B.Sc., Marylou worked diligently to maintain her status not only on the Dean's list, but as a leader and mentor in her class. She served on the UPEI Alumni Association Board of Directors and represented the Association on the UPEI Senate. Marylou went on to a profession in Audiology, contributing to the Island community in the field of research and clinical practice devoted to the study of hearing disorders, assessment of hearing, hearing conservation, and aural rehabilitation. Marylou has been an active volunteer within the university for many years, offering her time and talents to assisting with the annual golf tournament, providing support to convocation exercises, and always being available to assist whenever and wherever needed on the UPEI campus. In addition to her professional life, Marylou loves music, reunions, and all things related to her alma mater. It is in her consistent spirit of giving that Marylou Hughes has made this gift to the University of Prince Edward Island. In the fall of 2017, Marylou generously decided to establish an award in support of UPEI's new Paramedicine program. |
