Description: | Granted to a returning student who has volunteered in the university or broader community and loves music and animals. Preference will be given to a student who demonstrates a history of enriching the UPEI campus through activities and volunteerism. |
Background: | Robert "Rocky" Paquet was a valued employee of UPEI for 26 years. During Rocky's time at the university, the impact he had on the students was immeasurable. Rocky's position with facilities management was almost secondary. As an example of his dedication and heart, he would cook hotdogs for the students during his lunch, or hand out popsicles for treats. During exam week, Rocky would use a week's vacation to work in the chapel's kitchen to prepare chili, pasta, and hotdogs for nearly 700 students twice a year. Rocky also had a love of creatures big and small but mainly his canine companions. Sadly, this year UPEI lost a great friend and employee; Rocky passed away suddenly from a brief illness. Through his culinary delights and other kind ways, Rocky brought the campus together. He was known for his compassion and empathy, and going the extra mile to extend a helping hand. As a result of his generous nature, the students voted him as UPEI Staff of the Year in 2014, and he was the recipient of the President's Recognition Award of Merit for Campus Spirit in 2013. |
