Description: | Granted to a Business Administration student who has already completed one or more work terms in the Co-operative Education Program and intends to return to the UPEI Business Administration Program in the next academic year. The successful recipient will have demonstrated commitment to the program and excellence in the areas of work, academia and community service. In the result of two equally qualifying candidates, the award will be granted to the student in greatest financial need. |
Background: | Don MacCormac was an Assistant Professor of Business Administration at UPEI. He began his academic career as a Sessional Lecturer in 1972 and became a full-time educator in 1993. While teaching full-time, he founded the Business Administration Co-operative Education Program at UPEI in 1996, the first co-op program at the university. He served as its Program Director until 2006. Don was also the Coordinator of the Public Administration Program at UPEI for many years. As well, he established and was Coordinator of the Certificate Program in Human Resources Management. This program was jointly delivered by UPEI and Holland College and was one of the first joint initiatives by the two Island academic organizations. Don coached teams of UPEI students in national competitions (Excalibur Tournament) in Human Resources Management, competing against teams from major Canadian universities. UPEI teams won two 1st place awards as well as a 2nd and 5th place finish. This award was established by Don to assist Business Administration Co-operative Education students achieve their career goals. |
