Student enrolment continues to grow in the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Faculty of Nursing through a collaborative partnership with the province to help address nursing shortages in the healthcare system.

"There is a need to educate, recruit, and retain an increased number of nursing graduates to practice in the PEI health care system due to nation-wide nursing shortages. We continue to provide support to UPEI to ensure they have seats to educate our future nurses,” said Health and Wellness Minister Mark McLane.

Due to the rain expected tomorrow (September 27), the TRC Mawi’omi, which was scheduled for the afternoon, is postponed. The event will be rescheduled on a date in October. The new date will be communicated to the campus community when it has been determined.

Dr. Jo-Ann MacDonald, a professor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island, was presented with the Association of Atlantic Universities’ (AAU) 2024 Anne Marie MacKinnon Educational Leadership Award at the AAU’s fall meeting held at UPEI on September 19.

UPEI will mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation--Monday, September 30--with a number of events on campus this week, including a TRC Mawi'omi on September 27.

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week for September 16–22, 2024, are Rowan Gallagher (women’s rugby) and Jahmal Boursiquot (men’s soccer).

The UPEI men’s and women’s basketball teams are ready to roll at the annual Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament! The tournament features nine teams from across Canada and runs from Friday, September 27, to Sunday, September 29. The women’s pool includes Université Laval, Carleton University, Acadia University and UPEI. The men’s pool includes Université Laval, University of Guelph, Dalhousie University, University of New Brunswick and UPEI. The tournament is named after John Thomas “Mickey” Place, a long-time friend of Panther Sport, a former UPEI Student Union employee, and a UPEI honorary degree recipient.

The UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers just kicked their game into high gear with the addition of Robert Orr, a high-octane forward with a knack for lighting up the scoreboard. As the Panthers gear up for another season, Orr's arrival marks yet another infusion of young talent that promises to bring offensive firepower.

Mark your calendars for the annual Open House at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), on Saturday, September 28, from 10 am to 2 pm. This free-family-friendly event will feature tours, a petting zoo, a parade of dogs and more!
