The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) acknowledges that UPEI is located on the unceded land of the Mi’kmaq Nation, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, in the traditional district of Epekwitk. We welcome qualified applications for a tenure-track position in Inclusive Education at the rank of Assistant Professor ideally beginning July 1st, 2024.

The Faculty of Education is committed to developing caring, compassionate, and innovative teachers. We offer 12-month onsite Bachelor of Education programs in English and in French Education. With focuses in Indigenous Education, International Education, and Adult Education, our Bachelor of Education programs have a strong emphasis on issues pertaining to diversity, equity and social justice in local and global communities. At the graduate level, the Master of Education degree is offered in both course-based and thesis-based streams, on campus, online or blended formats. We also offer an on-site PhD in Educational Studies. To help us meet the demands of our growing programs, we are seeking the following new colleague to join a dynamic and resourceful team of educators.

Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will have a completed, or nearly completed, doctoral degree in education with a focus in inclusive education, a Bachelor of Education degree (or equivalent), a record of successful teaching in the K-12 school system, a dynamic or promising record of scholarly research and publishing, a commitment to collegial and collaborative relationships, and a capacity and interest in working across disciplines. Experience teaching in a university context would be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge, expertise and experience in educational theory and praxis on inclusion that includes high priority areas such as inclusive pedagogy, social emotional learning, children’s mental health, and Universal Design for Learning. Furthermore, the candidate should also possess a strong foundation in creating a culturally responsive, decolonizing, framework for teaching.

The successful candidate may be required to supervise BEd student teachers and MEd and PhD thesis students. Service, such as committee work, to the Faculty of Education and the university will be expected. A valid driver’s license is normally required. 

This faculty appointment will be for an on-campus tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary will be determined according to rank and experience as outlined in the Collective Agreement. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.
