Atlantic Award of Excellence in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Care

Established in 2005, this annual award recognizes excellence in veterinary medicine and animal care in Atlantic Canada. It recognizes professionals who have demonstrated exceptional service and contributions to the veterinary profession; exemplify the highest values of compassion, leadership, and dedication to the profession; are active in the community; and/or have made advancements in the profession. Anyone may submit a nomination. The award is open to all veterinarians who have practiced veterinary medicine in the Atlantic Provinces. Nominees can be currently practicing, retired, and / or the award can be given posthumously. Nominees do not have to be affiliated with the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island.

The following documents must be submitted to be considered a complete nomination:

  • Nomination form;
  • Nomination letter written by the nominator or co-written by others who can adequately outline the nominee’s contributions and achievements; and
  • A copy of the nominee’s CV or resume.

Nominations can be sent to avcspecialevents@upei.ca. The deadline for nominations is Monday, February 19, 2024

Honourable Eugene F. Whelan Green Hat Award

Established in 2000, this annual award recognizes individuals who have played direct roles in the growth of the Atlantic Veterinary College and who have supported its vision, reputation, and continued success. It is the greatest honour bestowed by the College.

A call for nominations will be issued in September each year. Anyone may submit a nomination. This award primarily acknowledges external stakeholders, however, retired faculty and staff members of the Atlantic Veterinary College may be eligible for the award. Active faculty and staff members are not considered eligible. All submissions will be screened to ensure they meet the criteria. Those submissions which qualify will be forwarded to the Atlantic Veterinary College's Dean's Council for review and selection.
