Let’s talk about decolonizing for our well-being

Sobia Ali-Faisal (Dept of Psychology ) and Dawne Knockwood (Dept of Education) will be facilitating a workshop on building solidarity among Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) communities on campus for our well-being. We will be applying liberation psychological theory to: explore ways in which colonization impacts our well-being determine ways in which to challenge colonial understandings of being to create safe spaces for ourselves build solidarity among BIPOC communities on campus When: March 4th, 1 - 3pm Where: Andrew Hall, Room 142 For: Faculty, staff, and students It is a free workshop and refreshments will be provided. Asian Studies Seminar & Korean Studies Speaker Series

The UPEI Faculty of Arts, Asian Studies Programme, and Korean Studies Project are pleased to announce the following special lecture by a prominent international scholar, our 2019 annual speaker:  Professor Charles K. Armstrong, Department of History, Columbia University, NYC, will give a special lecture entitled “North Korea and the Prospects for Peace” on March 25 (Monday) from 1:30 to 2:45 pm in the Faculty Lounge (room 201), SDU Main building. We will begin at 1:00 with reception and healthy refreshments. (Storm-day backup: Tuesday, March 26, 2:30-3:45 pm). This is a wonderful opportunity to understand or discuss “the latest development in US-Korean relations especially after the 2nd Trump-Kim summit in Vietnam, as well as the history of conflict on the Korean peninsula and the prospects for peace between North and South Korea under the leadership of Kim Jong Un and Moon Jae-in.” Everyone is invited. You are most welcome to attend.  Dr. Charles K. Armstrong is The Korea Foundation Professor of Korean Studies in the Social Sciences in the Department of History at Columbia University, NYC. He is the author, editor or co-editor of five books, including Tyranny of the Weak: North Korea and the World, 1950–1992 (Cornell University Press, 2013); The Koreas (Routledge, 2014); Korea at the Center: Dynamics of Regionalism in Northeast Asia (M.E. Sharpe, 2006); Korean Society: Civil Society, Democracy and the State (Routledge, 2006); and The North Korean Revolution, 1945–1950 (Cornell…, 2003). His current publication projects include a history of modern East Asia (forthcoming) and American cultural policy in East Asia during the Cold War. Convocation 2019

Every spring, the University of Prince Edward Island holds Convocation ceremonies to celebrate and award degrees and diplomas to its graduating students. The Convocation ceremonies are held indoors at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre at the University of Prince Edward Island, 550 University Avenue in Charlottetown. The ceremony on Friday begins at 1:30 pm, after graduates have proudly walked in a procession across campus. UPEI Convocation website

Neuroscience journal Club

Neuroscience Journal Club Friday, March 8, 2019 3:00-4:00 pm, Duffy Research Ctr The monthly meeting of the UPEI & Friends Neuroscience Journal Club will be held Friday, March 8th from 3-4 pm in the "Fishbowl" of the Duffy Research Centre (NRC). Our special guest will be Dr. Vic Rafuse, Director of the Brain Repair Centre at Dalhousie University. Dr. Rafuse will present a seminar in the Biology Department at 12:30 that day and join us for discussions about his work and potential interactions with the BRC. All faculty, staff and students with an interest in neuroscience research are welcome.
