| Description: | Awarded to full time graduating students in good academic standing who have demonstrated aptitude in their chosen field of study, and has been accepted into an accredited professional school or graduate program in the following order: Audiology, Medicine, or research in the medical field. |
| Background: | Marylou Hughes has made her mark in many ways on the University of Prince Edward Island. An active alumna, volunteer, and donor, Marylou's presence is strongly felt across campus. As one of the first mature females to graduate from UPEI with a B.Sc., Marylou worked diligently to maintain her status not only on the Deans' list, but as a leader and mentor in her class. She served on the UPEI Alumni Association Board of Directors and represented the Association on the UPEI Senate. Marylou went on to a profession in Audiology and continutes to contribute to the Island community in the field of research and clinical practice devoted to the study of hearing disorders, assessment of hearing , hearing conservation and aural rehabilitation. In addition to her professional life, Marylou loves music, reunions and all things related to her alma mater. It is in her consistent spirit of giving that Marylou establishes this scholarship at the University of Prince Edward Island. |
