Art Fitzgerald Graduate Research Scholarship

Description: Awarded to a full time graduate student at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Selection will be based on the candidate's application for admission to graduate school, including letters of reference. Primary criterion will be academic record, and secondary will be potential for success in their graduate program. Scholarship is non-renewable and applicants receiving stipend support totalling more than $20,000 annually are not eligible.
Background: This scholarship was established by Art Fitzgerald and family members. Dr. Fitzgerald is a resident of St. Louis, Missouri and spends summers in Springbrook, PEI. A native of Sydney, Cape Breton, Art Fitzgerald has a BA in Mechanical Engineering from Dalhousie Universityand an MBA from York University. In almost three decades with Monsanto he held numerous positions, frommarketer to director of quality control to Chief Operating Officer of the Nutrition Products Group. Beforeretiring in 2001, he was Co-CEO of Renessen, a biotechnology joint venture between Monsanto and Cargill,developing new grains and oilseeds. In the community, Art has been a board member of the Animal HealthInstitute and Chairman and board member of St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis, Missouri. In June 2014, these terms were revised to update the donor's wishes regarding the name of the award and to better reflect the award value process.
