The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (SSDE) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is seeking several highly-qualified applicants for post-doctoral positions in multi-robot systems with a focus on hierarchical structure and distribute control of large-scale systems. The UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering is devoted to developing engineers with exceptional design and professional skills combined with a global perspective—engineers who are broadly capable, globally and socially aware, creative, communicative, and entrepreneurial. Our graduates are ready from day one to provide sustainable solutions to meet the challenges of our world. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Candidates for the post-doctoral fellowship must have a PhD or is going to obtain a PhD in robotics related disciplines. The potential candidates should have a demonstrated record of scholarship and a track record of excellence in research. The candidates should have solid background in mathematics, excellent programming and software engineering skills. Outstanding hands-on skills on real mobile robotic platforms, strong computational and problem solving skills, and high level of analytical ability are highly expected. We particularly welcome candidates with intensive research experiences in perception, motion planning and control, and machine learning.

The selected applicant must have:

• A PhD in Robotics and Electrical Engineering.
• Extensive knowledge of graph theory, multi-robot systems, swarm robotics, distributed control are required for this position.
• Significant experiences in designing, developing and testing software for mobile robotic systems.
• Excellent hands-on skills in C++ and Matlab are expected.
• A good publication record of scientific papers published in the top-tier journals and major conference in robotics, particularly in the topics of multi-robot systems.
• Ability to work effectively as a part of a multi-disciplinary research team, and to carry out independent individual research toward an organisational goal.
• Advanced written and oral communication skills.

The prospective candidate should have:

• Commitment to multi-robot systems in previous and current research projects.
• Experiences in incorporating novel approaches to scientific investigations by adapting and/or developing original concepts and ideas.
• Ability to manage research projects, and experience of working under strict deadlines in a highly performing team.
• Experiences in scientific writing for preparation of scientific papers for publication and presentations for meetings and/or conferences.
• Willingness of cooperating and supporting other researchers in the research lab.
• Experiences in supervising undergraduate students

The post-doctoral assignment is for 1 year, with possibility of extension. A competitive post-doctoral stipend will be funded on a per annum basis.
