The Department of Health Management at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Large Animal Surgery (LAS) at the Assistant or Associate level, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to provision of clinical service, duties will include teaching in clinical, laboratory and didactic settings in the DVM program as well as LAS resident/graduate student training. Minimal qualifications include a DVM (or equivalent) degree and successful completion of an ACVS or ECVS accredited residency program.  Preference will be given to applicants with diplomate status in the ACVS or ECVS.  A postgraduate degree is desirable. The AVC Large Animal Clinic is the primary referral clinic for Atlantic Canada. The LAS caseload consists of a variety of sport horses, including Standardbred racehorses, (~85%) and food animals (~15%) with strong collaborative interactions with other large animal disciplines to optimize student teaching, patient care and client satisfaction. The successful applicant will share teaching, clinical and emergency duties with two other LAS faculty members. To be successful the applicant must be an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher.  The candidate must also have a strong interest in clinical service and scholarly activity. The breakdown between time dedicated to clinical service and scholarly activity may be adjusted to dovetail with the strengths or interest of the successful candidate.

Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.  Full-time faculty receive a comprehensive fringe benefits package, with benefit details provided at time of offer in accordance with the university’s collective agreement. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

The AVC is located on the campus of UPEI in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI). UPEI is committed to teaching, service and research. The AVC is fully accredited by the AVMA/CVMA, is recognized by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and delivers DVM, MVSc, MSc and PhD programs.
