The GeoREACH lab in the Applied, Communications, Leadership & Culture program is seeking a Research Assistant with experience in History, ACLC, or related disciplines to support research on land use, food, and policy history in Atlantic Canada. The Research Assistant will be supervised by the Director, Dr. Joshua MacFadyen. The GeoREACH lab supports Geospatial Research in Atlantic Canadian History and other projects of the ACLC program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produce historical research using primary documents
  • Participate in the weekly team meeting
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Perform data entry and summaries
  • Organize research results in databases such as Google Docs and Zotero
  • Work independently in Charlottetown area archives
  • Aerial photo interpretation
  • Working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with data management (spreadsheets)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly learn and master various computer applications
  • Knowledge of Atlantic Canadian history
  • Knowledge of food and agriculture
  • Experience with GIS
  • Ability to travel to various PEI archives
