The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications from qualified candidates for a very unique two-year term position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning July 1st, 2019, pending budgetary approval. 

The Faculty of Education at UPEI is a small, vibrant team committed to developing compassionate, collaborative and innovative teachers and to building just and equitable relationships in local and global communities.  To support a dynamic and resourceful team of educators and help us meet the demands of our thriving programs, we are seeking a colleague with expertise in Educational Leadership in Nunavut, Inuit Education, Integrated Arts and 21st Century Teaching and Learning to join us.

The Faculty offers 12-month Bachelor of Education programs in English and French Education. With specializations in Indigenous Education, International Education, and Adult Education, our BEd programs have a strong focus on issues pertaining to diversity, equity and social justice in local and global communities. At the graduate level, the Master of Education degree in Leadership and Learning is offered in both course-based and thesis-based streams on campus as well as in online and blended formats. We also offer an on-site PhD in Educational Studies. In addition, the Faculty offers a Certificate in Educational Leadership in Nunavut (CELN) program in partnership with the Department of Education, Government of Nunavut.

Expertise and experience in the areas of 21st century teaching and learning, research methods and critical pedagogy are required. Ideal candidates will also have knowledge and understanding of Inuit history and culture.  Preferred applicants will have a record of advancing Inuit education and a demonstrated ability to bring transformational change through collaboration. The ideal candidate will have expertise and experience in bilingual education, teaching Inuit graduate students, and working in educational leadership in Nunavut.  To diversify our faculty complement, preference will be given to applicants with Canadian Inuit heritage.

The successful candidate may be required to supervise BEd student teachers, and/or MEd and PhD thesis students. Service, such as committee work, to the Faculty of Education and the university will be expected. A valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred candidates for this position will hold a doctoral degree in education in a related field or be near completion. A Bachelor of Education degree and a successful record of school teaching in the public school context as well as in a university context are essential. Preferred applicants will have experience in online teaching, and a sound understanding of contemporary critical issues in education.
